The short version: the app does not send your journal to the developer. Your entries stay on your iPhone. When you export a backup or email support, you choose what to share.
Your journal on your iPhone
Events, dates, categories, expectations, outcomes, notes, and optional energy ratings are stored locally in the app’s private storage. Small preferences, such as reminder timing, haptics, and motion settings, are also stored on your device.
The app works without an account or internet connection. The current version has no developer journal servers, CloudKit or other cloud sync, advertising, third-party analytics SDKs, cross-app tracking, or AI services that process your entries. Observations are calculated from your own entries on the device.
Storage and backups
The app uses iOS file protection. Its journal directory is excluded from system device backups. Do not rely on an automatic iCloud or computer backup to restore your journal.
You can explicitly export your journal as JSON in Settings, then choose a destination in the system share sheet. The file includes your private notes and is not encrypted. Your chosen service or recipient handles the copy under its own terms. The app cannot control copies you save or share outside the app.
The temporary export file is removed after the share sheet closes. Files left by an interrupted share are removed at the next app launch. Temporary exports are also removed when you delete all entries. Import reads a file you select and adds new entries locally; it does not replace existing entries.
Optional reminders
Notifications are off by default. iOS permission is requested only after you take an action to enable reminders. These are local notifications scheduled by your iPhone; no push-notification server is used.
A reminder contains the event’s title. It may appear on the lock screen or elsewhere, depending on your iPhone settings. Adjust notification previews in iOS if you do not want event titles to be visible. Turning off notifications in Hindsight removes its pending and delivered reminders.
Your control and deletion
You can read, edit, and delete entries in the app, and export your journal as JSON. “Delete all data” in Settings removes events, notes, reflections, reminders, and temporary export files. Small app preferences remain.
Choosing “Delete App” in iOS removes the local journal and app preferences. “Offload App” is different: iOS keeps app data. The developer has no server copy of your journal and cannot recover deleted entries. Delete any exported copies separately from their storage locations or recipients.
If you contact support
When you email dvbondarchuk@gmail.com, the developer receives your email address, message, and any attachments you choose to send. This information is used to reply and resolve your request, and is retained as needed for support and applicable obligations. Correspondence uses Gmail; the email provider’s processing is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
Please do not send your full journal or backup for a routine support request. Remove personal entries from screenshots before sharing them. To ask a privacy question or request deletion of support correspondence, email the same address.

Apple’s platform and updates
App Store information and system diagnostics are handled by Apple according to your platform settings and the Apple Privacy Policy. Hindsight has no developer-operated diagnostic upload service.
If the app’s behavior changes, this policy will be updated with a new effective date. Hindsight is a personal reflection tool; it does not provide medical advice or mental-health care.
