Common questions
Where are my entries stored?
Only in Hindsight’s storage on this iPhone. There is no account or automatic sync between devices. The journal directory is excluded from system backups; use an explicit JSON export to move or back up your entries.
How do I back up or move my journal?
In Hindsight, open Settings → Export data as JSON and save the file to a destination you choose. The file includes your notes and is not encrypted, so store it carefully. On another iPhone, choose Settings → Import JSON backup and confirm the import. Set up reminders again for the events you want.
Does importing replace existing entries?
No. Import adds entries with new identifiers and keeps existing entries as they are. It accepts Hindsight JSON backups up to 20 MB and 50,000 entries. If a file is rejected, your existing entries remain.
Why didn’t my reminder appear?
Check Notifications in Hindsight’s Settings and permission in iPhone Settings. Choose a reminder for the event: enabling notifications alone does not recreate old reminders. Delivery also depends on iOS, including Focus settings. The event title can appear on the lock screen; notification previews can be changed in iOS.
When can I reflect on an event?
An event is ready for reflection after its scheduled time. You can defer a reflection or return to the event in Timeline. There is no requirement to check in every day.
How do I delete my data?
Choose Settings → Delete all data in Hindsight and confirm. This removes your journal, reminders, and temporary exports. Delete copies saved outside the app separately. Deleting the app in iOS also removes its local journal; offloading the app keeps its data.
Can you recover deleted entries?
The developer does not keep a server copy. You can restore entries only from a JSON backup you previously saved. Export any important entries before deleting the app to troubleshoot a problem.
How do I change the language?
Hindsight follows iOS language preferences and supports English and Russian. You can choose an app language in iPhone Settings where iOS offers that option. Your own entries are kept in the language you wrote them.
Does Hindsight provide medical advice?
Hindsight is a personal journal for comparing expectations with experience. It does not diagnose conditions, provide medical advice, or replace professional care.
